“The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an army, or in an office.” – Dwight David Eisenhower
Dear friends,
On Monday, May 25, Americans across the country will remember the brave men and women who gave their lives for our country. On this day that is set aside to REMEMBER with gratitude and pride all those who served and died for our country and our freedom, may your day be filled with memories and peace. It is my JOY to share some of Bob’s collection and the amazing artwork by Dwight David Eisenhower that graces our home.
“I believe the flag is more than just cloth and ink. It is a universally recognized symbol that stands for liberty and freedom. It is the history of our nation, and its marked by the blood of those who died defending it.” -John Thune
I have done a little decorating at my house…just filled my black pots with geraniums and sweet potato vine and American flags. Welcome!
“Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” -John Fitzgerald Kennedy
This outdoor furniture has served us well…. sofa on one side and two chairs on the other side of the porch. To the sofa, I have added a throw, a blue and white pillow and a very special flag pillow gifted to me by my best friend.
Now, come inside….
I just added some momentos to the Dining Room table. Bob and I both love history and these pieces have a bit of history.
The bowl holding another geranium is something special to me. I love the lines and tassels on the side. Might have graced a sideboard in another era.
Bob bought these Eagle book ends in 1976 in celebration of the 200th birthday of America. Bob is a patriot and loves this country. His collection of pieces is evidence of his devotion to country.
Another beautiful Eagle piece in Bob’s collection.
“Freedom of Worship”
“Freedom from Want”
“Freedom from Fear”
This candlestick belonged to Bob’s Mother. I have two of them. They have that cultured look like they might have been displayed in a historic place.
Mother’s beautiful candlesticks look old and cherished and are definitely part of my history. The books are a little collection of classics that I am very fond of.
Can a painting or beautiful work of art define our likes and interests? In this case, this definitely says a lot about me. I love children, animals and books. It has always been a little treasure to me. This hangs on one wall of our dining room.
This is a treasure for Bob. The painting called “The Church in Bavaria” painted by by Dwight D. Eisenhower was a gift to Bob from his aunt who was Dwight Eisenhower’s nurse. She was “his first nurse” when he was hospitalized after his heart attack in 1955. She was responsible for his famous bow-tie on his house robe when he refused to go in front of the public inappropriately dressed.
Bob is carrying the American flag in the SC National Guard Honor Guard in 1963.
May God Bless our country and may we never forget the sacrifices made on our behalf by those who gave their lives.
