Hi Friends,
When I hear the word hospitality, I think about my Mother and Dad. Hospitality seeks to minister. Their home was a place where others felt free to put their feet up and lay their worries down….a place to be refreshed. I really hope to embody the qualities I saw in my Mother. Her guests were happy to have a bowl of soup and a piece of her warm cornbread and she always had some home baked dessert.
I think after the holidays most of us are somewhat exhausted and need to be refreshed. This offers us a great opportunity to invite our friends to sit by the fire and enjoy a home cooked meal and relax. I think homemade soup and cornbread fits the bill. I really do think January is a wonderful time to do this.

A lovely table to lift the spirits (and widen the waistline because I’d want to eat a whole pan of cornbread!) on a cold winter night! My husband did his best to make a pot of homemade vegetable beef soup and cornbread last night. It wasn’t served at such a beautiful table as this, but he did a good job. That being said, I can’t wait to get back in the kitchen!!! I hope you are staying warm! Happy January!

Yes, Dianne I just love your favorite China also. So clean and goes with any other pieces for a beautiful table……no matter the season. And your seven gleaming candle tapers just are perfect. I am one of those that thinks the uneven numbers in decorating are more interesting…..unless ofcourse the arrangement is formal balance. And any one who knows me and my food desires knows soup of any kind is a favorite of mine. And nothing better than warm cornbread slathered in butter with molasses for dessert……that is for the second slice of the cornbread ! Keep the JOY ever near.

Dianne, soup and cornbread sounds fabulous on these cold nights! As a matter of fact, I love good Southern cornbread and I am sure yours is delicious. The table is so lovely with all the candles and the beautiful china and crystal! Our mothers had much in common, my mother always had desserts to offer and, of course home-made and she shared her gift of hospitality with the those who were rich and those who had nothing to offer!. We both have beautiful legacies from mothers who served! Stay warm this week!
