My Brother Gordon-Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday Gordon

In God’s Great Wisdom, most of us have the opportunity to share our lives, our homes, our faith and most every aspect of our lives with a unit called family.  Thirteen months after I was born, there came along a very cute little boy, my brother, Gordon.

Being thirteen months apart in age, we have always been close.  Gordon is a very accomplished man.  Graduated college cum laude, had a 30 year career as an auditor for the State of North Carolina, and now enjoying retirement with his beautiful wife, Dora. I also want to mention that Gordon served in the U S Army and spent a year in Viet Nam during that war.

I have to deviate and talk about Dora.  She is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. What a joy she gives to my life. She is much more like my sister. I love you Dora.  Gordon has become like a brother to Bob.  All of us lost our Mothers within a year so if anything our unit has gotten stronger.IMG_3931.jpg

Here we are with Mother and Dad.  Gordon and I miss them terribly.  As we got older, Gordon would schedule and paid for an annual trip to the beach for the four of us.  I wouldn’t take anything for these memories.  Thank you Gordon.

Wherever we are, we all seem to be smiling and locked arm in arm.  Thank you Precious God for this family and thank you for my brother.

Gordon did so much for Mother and Dad during their last years.  Words are totally incapable of thanking him.  I think we are at the beach here. I really like this picture of Gordon…looks like the professional he truly is. What hair!! is all I can say about me?!  We look so happy together and we look a lot alike in this picture.  Gordon was a very good tennis player at one time and I am sure his shirt is about tennis.

Dora looks like a movie star.  She is one of the most talented people I have ever known and one of the most wonderful.  Bob and I call her Saint Dora.

Here they are with one of their grandchildren about 7 years ago.

Gordon, Happy Birthday.  I love you more than you will ever know.  I am and have always been so proud of you.  No one could have a sweeter or more family oriented and loving brother.  God has blessed me.  There is nothing like getting a phone call from someone saying “Hey Sister of Mine.”

After you and Dora light the Advent Candle tomorrow at church, Bob and I will see you for lunch.

Your Sister, Dianne

  1. Dianne, sister of mine, Thank you for all the flattery on my birthday. I can’t express the joy and happiness we, along with mother and dad, shared over the years. I have such great memories that can never be replaced. God blessed me over those years and continues to bless me today. If there is anything ever at any time I can do for you and/or Bob, I am only a phone call away. I can’t believe 70 years on this earth. Laughing as we do when together always makes my day. I couldn’t have asked for any better birthday present than reading your blog. I love you both, ole brother Gordon.

  2. Dianne, what a special post for your brother! Is he your only sibling? I have one brother who is almost four years younger than me! He is such a blessing to me as well as his precious wife! Happy birthday to Gordon! Blessings sweet friend!

  3. Pam, we are so fortunate when we are close to our siblings. He is the only one as it is with you and your brother. I just feel I have to write about my loved ones. Thank you for always visiting.

  4. HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY GORDON ! This is a special milestone year for you. Wishing you many more. Dianne, the first photo you selected is just so sweet. And don’t we treasure these family photos and memories of the happy times with our dear loved ones.
